Lovely Home

It's been a while since I last shared a beautiful home with you and since I found one that really made me want to live in it, I decided it's just the right time.

Don't you just love the cute signs on the walls? I like how they are the same colour, creating beautiful shadows that make them visible.

Although I get a bit distracted and I don't feel very comfortable having a mirror in places I spend much time in (am I the only one?), I love how the vintage mirrors here reflect the trees outside

I love white bathrooms, especially ones that have natural light!

I always wonder how those people take baths when they have guests in the house? It looks very romantic and old-fashioned though

I love the different chairs. I know in the US people often use different chairs while in my country they always have to be a set. I think using different ones gives a feeling like they've been found, like they are antiques and it is perfect for people who love vintage; while having only one kind around the table makes it more elegant and modern. What do you prefer?

Kitchen cupboards are a weakness of mine. They remind me of doll houses.

My mom just found an old dresser in our basement which belonged to my great grandmother and she told me I could have it. It is very similar to the one above, only bigger and it has metal handles that look so antique and beautiful! It is gorgeous and I can't wait to repair it and paint it white and take it home with me!

And last but not least, I would love to sit in that beautiful armchair, having a good book in hands and drinking my afternoon coffee. Would you like to join me?

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, dear friends! I hope everyone is having a lovely time with their families, eating lots of sweets and unwrapping presents:)

I wanted to try something fun for wrapping this year's presents, so I made them look like they were sent over the mail. Everyone loved it, especially the kids! I just wish I had more time to do some calligraphy signs but there's always next year, right?

I just saw this beautiful video on Fleur Avenue. Enjoy!

It's Friday again and time for today's drawing. I used charcoal, only this time I drew on gray textured paper. I am satisfied with the result but I think I like last week's better. What do you guys think?

It has been snowing all night over here and now everything looks so pretty! I wished I had my camera with me when I was walking home. I love snow when it's fresh and clean. I hope to have some spare time this weekend to take pictures.

What are your plans for the weekend? Is it snowing there? I have classes tomorrow - we have to study on Saturday instead of New Year's Eve, which absolutely sucks, doesn't it?

Lovely Mail

Is it possible that Mr. Mailman loves me? That would be a first! I just ordered a lovely print a week ago and it is already here! I was prepared to wait for a whole month, considering how busy the post offices around the world are, but turns out - I didn't have to.

Well, I am still waiting for two or three packages to come and I've been waiting for almost two months for some of them but lets hope they didn't get lost! I had an unpleasant experience with a package a dear flickr friend sent me - they returned it to the sender because I haven't picked it up but the truth is I haven't received a note that it has arrived (this is how things work here). So I went there last week to check if there is something for me there and explained to a very unfriendly lady that obviously I don't always get their notes and she told me there has probably been some mistake and there wasn't anything to be done. I'm sorry about all the complaining but one of the best things for me is receiving mail and there are little things I hate more than someone taking away this experience from me.

I am wondering how things work at your country? Have you had any unpleasant experiences?

DIY: Holiday Decor

It is nearly Christmas - my favourite time of the year! I love decorating my home and I am pretty sure I am not the only one here. So I found some really great ideas in case you still have some time and enthusiasm left.

Don't you just love this matchbox advent calendar tree? I am sure every kid would love it! There are instructions on the happy home blog how to make it yourself.

I love Alli's display - so simple and easy to do and yet so beautiful!

There are some really great DIY projects at Stephanie's blog. I love what she does with candles!

I will sure be sharing more ideas before Christmas so if you have a lovely project to share - let me know and I will most likely feature it here.

Have a lovely day everyone!

Inspiration: Alice Gao

One of my favourite contacts on flickr - Alice (the cheshire smile) is having a huge sale at her etsy shop. I already purchased a lovely print and I can't wait to see it in person. I know she has a lot of fans so you might want to hurry up.

I got a baby nephew early this morning! His name is Evtim (after my father) and I can't wait to go home and see his cute little face :)

Happy Friday, everyone! So glad the week is over and the weekend is ahead of us.
I wanted to share my drawings from today's class. I got really good critique and the teacher sat next to me and gave me some advise and you can actually see how much better the figure on the right looks compared to the previous one on the left. I actually screwed the first one up so the teacher told me to draw on top of it so you can actually see the drawing underneath. It was fun trying out this new technique (I used charcoal for the first time ever!)

I didn't have anything to fix the drawing so I had to carry it carefully on my way home. On the public transport there were so many people that came to me and asked me where I study and if they could see the drawing. They were all very sweet! I love sweet strangers, don't you?

I need to do some shopping for Christmas presents this weekend. Did you already do yours? Ah, I can't wait to see what each of you bought or made and especially how you wrapped it! I love wrapping presents!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Books: "The Medici Secret"

I finally finished reading "The Medici Secret". Finally! I don't usually say this but this book sucked big time! I thought it would be similar to Dan Brown's novels (which aren't the greatest books of all time, but at least they are entertaining) but I was mistaken. All the historically incorrect conversations between members of the Medici family and the "conspiracy" it all felt fake and not very well thought. The clues weren't very clear and logical and I highly doubt anyone who isn't a specialist would know what to search for so I have no idea how the characters managed to understand all of them. In other words - I don't recommend you to read this book and I made a promise to myself never to buy a book I have never heard of before ever again.

I'm just stopping by to post a picture of my last week's painting. It's not nearly finished but I am proud that I managed to let go and just have some fun with the watercolors which is exactly what the class is all about. Any recommendations and advises are welcome and appreciated!
Oh, yes - it's a female body (since I was asked a couple of times).

p.s. The painting is way too big to fit my scanner so I had no other option but take a photo, hence the bad quality. Sorry about that.

Student Holiday

Today in my country we celebrate Student Holiday. All the universities are closed for a day and the students are celebrating all over the country. I don't think other countries have this holiday, but if you are a university student go have some fun!

I am having a quiet, lazy morning drinking my coffee and having the most delicious French croissant filled with chocolate from the bakery next to my building. Yesterday I found some cute little pencils made of wood and decided I could add them to the Christmas presents' packaging - I know my niece would love them!

I am now off to finish my coffee, get some work done and go shopping because I am in terrible need of warm clothes! Winter is finally here!

How was your weekend, everyone? Mine was pretty cool, although I had a lot of work to be done. I managed to go see Couple's Retreat and it was really good, although I didn't quite get why it was entirely made from a woman's point of view. It was kind of a proof how bad men are and how women are the only ones who work in a relationship. Even though, it was still a lot of fun but not for a guy, I guess.

Yesterday I went to a book fair, something a person with my problem of buying a lot of books when I don't have the time to read them shouldn't do. I got four books - all the three parts of "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand and Dan Brown's "The Lost Symbol". I'll probably leave the first one for later because I don't want to interrupt my reading with the whole lot of projects I need to finish.

Anyway, this means that I now have 7 books on my nightstand waiting for me, literally! I carry "The Catcher in the Rye" with me because it is a small size and fits perfectly in my purse and I really want to have something to read wherever I go, just in case. The other one I'm reading right now is "The Medici Secret" and I can't wait to finish it because it is so boring!! I really hate how they come up with historical "facts" and the story itself doesn't make a lot of sense yet (I have 50 more pages to read).

So, what are you, dear friends, reading right now? Perhaps you could recommend something to add to my huge pile on my nightstand? I'd love to hear!

Lovely Weekend

It is my personal belief that there is nothing better to do on a lazy weekend in the winter than grab a cup of hot coffee, a good book and listen to some old-fashioned music. I imagine getting inside my boyfriend's oversized (well, for me) sweater, grabbing a blanket and watching people walking on the street with their cute hats and scarves and coats. The only thing more I could wish for is a working fireplace, but we should always have something to dream about, right?

Have the most beautiful, warm and relaxing weekend!

Friday, December 4, 2009

Hello, dear friends! It has been a while, I know. Thank you so much for the kind comments while I was away. I had a pretty busy couple of weeks (and have a few more to come), working on my projects, presentation boards for exhibitions and so on. I tried to stay away from the blogworld as much as I could because well, it is quite a distraction for me. Does this happens to you as well - knowing that you should be doing something else but you simply must visit one more blog, read a little more?

The reason for all this rush is that I found out that we most probably won't have a Christmas vacation at the university - we will be having just a couple of days for Christmas and then just one day for New Year's Eve. It really sucks, because I love Christmas more than any other holiday - I always spend it at my parents' house with my whole family, my grandma and my mom make the most delicious meals for Christmas Eve, my cousin who lives in the US comes to visit and it really is wonderful every year. Plus this time we are expecting a new member to our family - a little baby boy - my nephew! So, I am pretty much working hard so that I get to finish the projects a little earlier and get my long-waited vacation! Sounds good? Keep your fingers crossed that everything will work out!

What are your plans for the holidays, dear friends? Do you celebrate Christmas and have you planned long vacations? I'd love to hear about it and dream a little with you!
